BACK to see what else is new at the 2000 Scandinavian Festival
Founded in 1990,
Skålmusik of Brainerd,
Minnesota is a 5 piece ensemble that performs traditional Scandinavian and Scandinavian- American music.
They have toured extensively in the 5 state area and beyond, playing at Scandinavian festivals and community celebrations for dances and concerts, and in schools for lyceums and residencies. Skålmusik is not only in the business of entertaining, but is doing the important work of carrying on a tradition that is in danger of disappearing. They play fiddles (both fiddlers in the group have made their own violins!), accordions, guitar, pump organ and double bass. They also sing songs both serious and humorous. They play music for old time dancing, teach lots of easy mixer dances for young and old and lead grand marches. They work in schools and are or have been rostered artists in the Duluth Depot Outreach program, the Minnesota Arts Board's Folk Artist Directory and the Compas Cultural Arts program. Skålmusik's performances can be specially geared to young people and include student participation in song and dance. They believe in the 'teach by example' school......kids really pick up on artists' enthusiasm for their art! Skålmusik has performed at a reception for the King and Queen of Sweden at the Governor's mansion in Minnesota and appeared coast to coast in Nov., '97 on Garrison Keillor's, "Prairie Home Companion" on National Public Radio. |

| For their visit to this year's Festival they are coming as an abbreviated group. Paul and Mary will be here, and Arne Anderson and his daughter, who plays the string bass. |
